Applicants must be 18 years of age or older. The camp is open to participants from across the United States.

Is this camp beginner-friendly?

No. H2M Writing Camp is designed for creatives operating at a professional or near-professional level. Participants should have a developed skill set, catalog, or body of work before applying. If you are still building foundational skills, this camp is not the right fit at this time.

Question 4

Do I have to be based in Maryland or the DMV?

Accepted Answer

No. The H2M Writing Camp is open to participants from across the United States. Participants are responsible for their own transportation to the private Maryland camp location. Travel and logistics details will be provided to accepted participants prior to arrival.

Do I have to be registered with BMI, ASCAP, or SESAC before attending?

Accepted Answer

PRO registration is not required to apply, but Heart 2 Melody Records strongly recommends that all songwriters, producers, and creators be affiliated with a Performing Rights Organization (BMI, ASCAP, SESAC, SOCAN, or equivalent) before or during the camp experience. Because music created at camp may be developed for commercial release, publishing, sync licensing, television, film, and streaming platforms, PRO registration is an important part of protecting your ownership rights and collecting future royalties. Participants who are not currently affiliated should be prepared to register before the camp concludes.

How are participants selected?

Applications are reviewed by the H2M leadership team and selected creative partners. Selections are based on: Talent and portfolio quality. Industry experience and professional credits. Creative potential and artistic identity. Professionalism and work ethic. Collaboration ability and team fit. Overall fit with the camp environment and objectives Because capacity is intentionally limited to 12–15 core participants, application approval is competitive. A strong portfolio and thoughtful written responses improve your chances of selection.

H2M Writing Camp is not limited to a single genre. The camp prioritizes commercially competitive, emotionally driven music with strong creative direction. Represented genres include R&B, Hip-Hop, Soul, Neo-Soul, Pop, Gospel, and related styles. All submitted music is evaluated for creative quality, commercial viability, and potential for sync licensing and publishing opportunities — regardless of genre.

What should I bring to camp?

A complete gear list will be provided to accepted participants prior to arrival. Based on your role, plan to bring the following: Recording Artists & Songwriters: Notebook, Pens and pencils, Lyric sheets, Song concepts and ideas, Personal headphones Producers & Beatmakers: Laptop with DAW installed, External hard drive (500GB+), MIDI controller (recommended), Sample libraries and plugins, Headphones, Chargers and power supplies Musicians & Instrumentalists: Primary instrument, Instrument cables, Picks, sticks, reeds, or accessories, Tuner, Pedals (if applicable), Headphones, Instrument maintenance supplies Audio Engineers: Laptop with preferred DAW, External hard drive, Session templates, Headphones, Necessary software and adapters During sessions, we encourage limited phone use to keep creative energy focused and intentional. H2M will have an official in-house photographer and videographer capturing content throughout the camp — your creative moments will be documented professionally.

Will there be separate sleeping accommodations for men and women?

Yes. Residential accommodations will be organized with separate sleeping arrangements for male and female participants. Full accommodation details, including room assignments and facility information, will be provided to accepted participants prior to arrival.

Can I bring my manager, team member, photographer, videographer, or guests?

Accepted Answer

No. Outside guests, team members, managers, personal photographers, and personal videographers are not permitted at the camp without prior written approval from camp leadership. Only approved participants, staff, creative partners, and officially invited guests may be present on the camp property. H2M will have an official in-house photographer and videographer on-site throughout the entire camp.

Is alcohol, smoking, or marijuana permitted?

No. Alcohol, smoking, marijuana, and any other controlled substances are strictly prohibited at the H2M Writing Camp. Any participant found in violation of this policy will be removed from the camp immediately. No exceptions.

Can I be removed from the camp?

Accepted Answer

Yes. H2M Writing Camp leadership reserves the right to remove any participant who violates camp rules, disrupts the creative environment, engages in unprofessional or disrespectful behavior, or fails to meet the conduct standards outlined in the Camp Participation Agreement. Removal does not entitle the participant to any refund, compensation, or future consideration.

Confidentiality is a professional standard that protects the music being created, the creators contributing to it, and the commercial opportunities being developed. Music created during camp may be targeted for artist releases, publishing catalogs, sync licensing, television, film, advertising, sports, gaming, and commercial campaigns. These opportunities require exclusivity before public release — if a song is shared before clearance, the placement and the opportunity are gone. A private environment protects active creative briefs and the business relationships that make placements possible. Confidentiality protects every participant's creative contributions and ownership interests. Privacy allows participants to create freely without external pressure, premature exposure, or public judgment This is not unusual. Every professional label writing camp, publishing session, and sync licensing agreement operates under the same confidentiality principles for the same reasons. Privacy is what allows the work to reach its full commercial potential.

Can I record or post content from the camp on social media?

H2M Writing Camp has an official in-house content team documenting the camp experience — including sessions, performances, behind-the-scenes moments, and creative milestones. Participants are welcome to share approved personal content, but must follow all camp content guidelines: No livestreaming of camp sessions, activities, or conversations. No sharing or leaking unreleased music, stems, or session files. No posting of private sessions, studio conversations, or confidential discussions. No sharing other participants' personal information without consent. Less scrolling, more creating — phones should be minimized during active sessions Full content and social media guidelines will be outlined in the Camp Participation Agreement provided to accepted participants.

Who owns the music created during the camp?

Music created during H2M Writing Camp is governed by the official camp ownership documentation, including the Music Ownership & Rights Policy, Camp Participation Agreement, Split Sheet Documentation, Metadata Documentation, and related camp agreements. Ownership, publishing interests, producer participation, musician points, engineer points, exploitation rights, and revenue participation are documented and agreed upon through the camp's official documentation process. All participants are required to complete ownership documentation before camp-created music may be commercially released, distributed, licensed, monetized, or otherwise exploited. Specific ownership allocations vary by contribution and are determined through the official H2M Writing Camp ownership structure.

Do producers keep ownership of their beats?

Music created during H2M Writing Camp is governed by the official camp ownership documentation. What happens if I am accepted but can no longer attend?
